"Synopsis: This fourth film adaptation of Damon Runyon's short story concerns the aptly named bookie Sorrowful Jones. His life -- and his outlook -- change dramatically after a man leaves Sorrowful a little girl as collateral for a debt...and doesn't return. The sprightly child has a positive effect on her curmudgeonly guardian, adding a little sunshine to his happiness-free life. Furthermore, the lass decides to play matchmaker, for Sorrowful and a lovely widow. Will her plan to create romance work?" --Anonymous | "This film, although a re-make, manages to warm even the coldest of hearts. Walter Matthau plays Sorrowful Jones (a hard-hearted bookie) wonderfully and Julie Andrews (as Amanda Worthington)is perfect in the role. Sara Stimson plays the little girl who brings them together and teaches Sorrowful the meaning of love. Little Miss Marker is an emotional film, but has plenty of comedic touches to it. No one who sees it can fail to fall in love with it (unless they are seriously depressive!) See it - and you're hooked!" --Anonymous |
