The River received an Academy Award for Special Achievement Awards (Kay Rose - Sound Effects Editing). The River also received Academy Awards nominations for Actress (Sissy Spacek), Cinematography (Vilmos Zsigmond) Music Scoring Awards (Best Original Score: John Williams) and for Sound (Nick Alphin, Robert Thirlwell, Richard Portman, David Ronne).
