Prince - Dirty Mind .gif) By Amy Linden
On this 1980 tour de force, Prince produced the template for most of
his '80s albums: a mixture of lust and longing, synth pop combined with
gut bucket rock and roll. Although this was his third CD, Dirty Mind
was the one that truly established him. "When You Were Mine,"
which still ranks as one of his best songs, ever. The gender- and
race-bending Dirty Mind was nasty and freaky--and you could dance
to it. Still can.

"This was the LP that really put Prince on the map. He had just hit big with "I Wanna Be Your Lover" in his previous album, but this put him over the top with funk and R&B listeners. "Uptown" was great, but "Head" was something your parents really didn't want you listening to, which made it that much better. This was definitely one of his 3 best he put out, along with "1999" and "Sign Of The Times"." --Anonymous |
