Kraftwerk - Computer World Click here to see this CD at Amazon.com!

By Jerry McCulley

This is the album pundits like to point to when they accuse Kraftwerk of being digital-age visionaries; an all-too-easy assessment to make in the face of tracks such as "Home Computer" and "Computer Love" (not an ode to one-hand typing!). But to saddle the band with the reputation of sages is to completely miss the low-key wit and all-too-human playfulness of this album. "Pocket Calculator" and "Numbers" (the lyrics: numbers one to eight--period) could be read as tongue-in-cheek ripostes to too much bad "educational" programming, but that would smack of creeping punditry. Computer World is Kraftwerk's most lovable bundle of contradictions: at once its most technologically obsessed album and its most human.

Your Memories Shared!

"This album or musical offering from Kraftwerk released in 1981 must be regarded as one of the most innovative recordings of its period. It had a heavy influence on the house music movement. Interestingly enough this album was released when the first Sony Walkman became available to the public offering a new musical experience. This record is an inextricable part of my adolescence. The eighties will forever be regarded as a reactionary political period for the masses with brilliant musical responses and undertoes.

It eclipsed the Super70s in terms of dance and musical creativity. Music and visual art became one in the Awesome80s with the birth of the music video.

Though politically restricted with the convergence of music and visual art, a new artistic freedom was made manifest breaking the rigid bonds of fm radio. Kraftwerk would be a much appreciated sound before the fury!"
