"Vanity 6 is one of the first of 2 albums that revealed the enormous size of Prince's ego and talent. They were both so great that he actually spun parts of them off into two seperate groups: The Time and Vanity 6. And he did it with success as his own albums and these clone groups were successful and quite good - simultaneously.
Vanity 6 is the sexy, new wave female aspect of the Prince genius. Not overly substantial but hot as hell and great fun to listen to even some 20 years after its release - heck, Beyounce just sampled the hit single, Nasty Girl, during her performance at halftime of the NBA AllStar Game! This goes to show the span, depth, and cstaying power of Prince's influence on popular music. Even his second string continue to be old scool classics.
And you won't find a much funkier new wave record than Vainty 6. In fact, since it has been long out of print, it has become a much sought after collector's item fetching pretty pennies on eBay and among hardcare Prince fanatics - like myself." --Anonymous |
