"One mans background music to his day to day existance in this cruel but hopefilled world becomes the theme music to many of his faithfull fans. Matt Johnson was and still is so far ahead of his own time that in todays world of mindless rabble that has been forced upon the masses by the boy band era (error), and the whinny moaning single chick acts that all sound alike, his music still has a great impact upon its first time listeners. To really appreciate the genius of Matt Johnson one should read along with the lyrics, the poetry is pure heartfelt expressions of worldly astuteness and brims with creative orginality. This Album "Soul Mining" released in 1984, is as new to me today as it was when I first heard it. GO OUT AND BUY IT!!!!"

"Cliche - but it changed my life - driving along Queen street in Edinburgh on a warm summers evening back in the Awesome80s."

"My favorite album of all time. It takes several times listening to really appreciate the work. It is deep, angry and at times depressing. It really helps to get through problem times."

"Soul Mining was a monumental achievment in pop music. The songwriting skill and masterful production created songs that were an ambient landscape each to their own, and captured the imagination of the listener. Listening to it today is still a fresh and enjoyable experience. This is easily one of my top ten albums of all time."

"This album defined teen angst long before anybody had thought of grunge. Although some of Johnson's lyrics are a little wince-worthy these days, tunes like "Giant" and "Perfect Day" are still great and go a long way to explaining why The The were such a great band."
