Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love RIAA Certified Multi-Platinum! Click here to see this CD at Amazon.com!

By Daniel Durchholz

After several years at the top of the rock world, Springsteen pulled back the reins on Tunnel of Love--a lot, not just a little. Members of the E Street Band played on the album but seldom in full-band arrangements. Then, too, there are the deeply conflicted songs--"Brilliant Disguise," "Two Faces," "Tunnel of Love," "One Step Up"--that may have been written in response to the imminent failure of his first marriage. There's more to the album than divorce-court play-by-play, however. There's also the raw rocker "Spare Parts," the sprightly "All That Heaven Will Allow," and the bold declaration "Tougher Than the Rest." Overall, these are some of his most thoughtful songs and most intimate performances.

"This is still an album I listen to today. It is awesome. The music and the lyrics both move me to dance and to cry. Love and its pain and joy are in the words and rhythm on this brilliant set of songs by Springsteen."

"This album, the first to be released after the roaring success of Born in the USA, offers a insightful look inside the way in which the New Jersey-born rocker reacted to to the sudden sweep of fame and fortune. Rather than build on the commerical foundation laid by USA, Springsteen returned to the melancholy and poignant feeling that marks his earlier work. This isn't to say, however, that we find the rocker once again roaring down a dark, desolate New Jersey Turnpike, as was the case with the seminal work, Nebraska (1982). Rather, the Boss began moving in another creative direction which began exploring romance, relationships and love, all new themes for a rocker who made his name with odes to escapism early on, and then tragedy and disassociation in the early Awesome80s. All in all, it's a great album and one that marks a turning point for Springsteen's career."
