1989 Donruss Baseball

By Patrick Mondout

Donruss' 1989 set of 660 cards once again had colorful borders and was once again printed in supplies guaranteed to keep prices down. Team MVP cards were again printed for distribution in wax packs, but unlike the previous year the 26 cards were printed on a sheet featuring 106 cards already accounted for on another sheet. In other words, 106 of the cards in this set were double printed including the omnipresent rookie card of Craig Biggio.

Other notable rookies included Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Gary Sheffield, Dante Bichette, Sandy Alomar Jr., Curt Schilling, Brady Anderson, and John Smoltz.

A special bonus card of Jose Canseco was included in so-called blister packs. This year's puzzle was of Warren Spahn.

A checklist for all 660 cards is available here.
