1989-90 Fleer Basketball Cards

While the basketball card business got so bad in the early Awesome80s that Topps dropped out all together, the resurgence of the league itself - and that of the hobby too - led a second company to release a major set of cards in 1989. The '89-90 Fleer set is a pretty uninspired and easy to obtain set. The set was, however, expanded to 168 cards from 132 and contains the first subset of cards in a Fleer basketball issue. Cards 163-167 feature pictures of multiple All-Stars. The front design did include the logos for the teams - a feature the Star Company introduced to basketball cards half a decade earlier. The cards are numbered in alphabetical order by team, and then by alphabetical order within the team with the checklist last.

Wax packs included 14 cards and an All-Star sticker. Rack packs of 42 cards and one sticker were also sold. Rookies include the Suns backcourt of Kevin Johnson, Jeff Hornacek, and Dan Majerle plus Reggie Lewis, Rony Siekely, Rik Smits, Rod Strikland, Hersey Hawkins, Mitch Richmond and Danny Manning.
