1987 Topps Football Cards

After the bold hits and misses of the past three years, Topps produced a solid, if unspectacular set. The only rookie card of note was Randall Cunningham, though the first NFL card for former USFLers Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie, and Jim Kelly are also present. The dreadful draft of 1986 was the culprit.

Topps once again produced a set of "1000 Yard Club" heavy card stock inserts for its wax packs. They also produced a smaller set (88 cards) for the UK market. The cards were similar to the '87 Topps cards of the same player, but featured a team logo on the front and a "talking football" section on the back to introduce Brits to the real sport* called football. The hooligans* seemed unimpressed and the cards are not in great demand today.
