1985 New England Patriots
The Patriots enjoyed their finest season to date in 1985. In head coach
Raymond Berry's first full season at the helm, the Pats finished 11-5 and
one game behind Dan Marino and the Dolphins.
They beat the New York Jets 28-14 in
the Wild Card Playoffs to advance to
the Divisional Playoffs where they
defeated the Los Angeles Raiders
27-20. This set up a showdown with the Dolphins for the AFC
Championship. While most were predicting a Dolphins/Bear Super Bowl,
the Pats made it look easy with a 31-14 victory over Miami
Dolphins. While this victory gave the Patriots their first ever
appearance in the big game, it came against one of the most dominating
teams in NFL history. The Bears and their "46" defense blew-out
the Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl XX.
