Super Bowls in the Awesome80sBy Patrick Mondout
The NFC dominated the Super Bowl during the Awesome80s winning eight of
ten including three of the last four against John Elway and the Denver
Broncos. In fact, the AFC did not win a single Super Bowl after January
1984 until January 1998 when, ironically enough, Elway and the Broncos won
their first of two in a row.
One team in particular dominated 1980s: The San Francisco 49ers, with
Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, and Roger Craig led the Awesome80s.com
NFL Team of the Decade to four Super Bowl victories (a record
fifth was won in 1994). They were so dominant that they were featured on a
stamp issued by the US Postal Service in 2000 as part of the Celebrate
the Century series (see right).
