Complete TV Show Listing for the 1980s
Here is a complete listing of prime-time TV shows of the Awesome80s (logic
of this list). Note that this list only includes programs which began
airing after January 1, 1980 (check our Super70s
list). We also have selected British programs
that were popular here.
Logic of this list
These are almost all the primetime TV shows that aired on the three
major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC). Exceptions are some short-lived
replacement programs (though many of them are here too). Sitcoms and
comedies are in the first column, dramas in the second, and everything
else (variety programs like Barbara Mandrell, westerns like Bret Maverick,
works of science fiction like Star Trek: The Next Generation, miniseries
like Shogun, adventures like Knight Rider and newsmagazines like 48 Hours
and others fall into this category.
Shows that first aired in the 1970s and continued into the 1980s are not
here. They are on our 1970s
site. these show did continue airing new episodes into the
Super70s. Shows like Gilligan's Island, which were in rerun syndication
(and still are), are not included since they were not in production
on January 1st, 1980. If you cannot find your favorite program, there are
three reasons:
- It was very short lived and hasn't been covered. (Tell us about it
and we'll be happy to cover it. We just need interest.)
- It was in first-run syndication (meaning that it was likely on an
independent channel in your area and not part of the primetime
schedule of the Big Three (CBS, ABC, and NBC). (Tell us about it and
we'll be happy to cover it. We just need interest.) We do have a
section on British programs that were popular
on our side of the Atlantic, mostly due to the efforts of PBS.
- It was actually from the 1970s or 1990s. (Check our Super70s
list.)
