Call To Glory

Call to Glory is an television series which aired from 1984 to 1985. Starring Craig T. Nelson as USAF pilot Col. Raynor Sarnac, in the course of its production run it drifted away from its original reasonably authentic setting and storyline which was centered at Edwards Air Force Base in the early 1960s time period.

Its pilot episode related to the U-2 flights over Cuba during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Much of its earlier episodes related to wife Vanessa Sarnac's loneliness while stationed on base and what she would do to spend time in productive pursuits while enduring the Antelope Valley's then more noticeable isolation from civilization. One of Mrs. Sarnac's (played by Cindy Pickett) acquired desert pursuits was painting - one of several realistic touches seen in the earlier episodes.

The series, produced by Paramount Television, aired from August 1984 to February 1985.

"The Premise is that a air force colonel who has the ear of President Kennedy after the Cuban Missile Crisis takes over at Edwards Air Base where they test all the cool airplanes and that he is going to test the fastest airplane yet built the blackbird It revolves around the typical life of a military family during the early sixties through all the turmoil the show was dropped because they started slipping historically and not everyting in the sixties happened in 1962 and 63 Kennedy was shot and you see they're reactions and it had no where to go with him dead and the plane top secret during the sixties ABC dropped it." --R Randall
