Totally Hidden Video
This blatant rip-off of Candid Camera was hosted by Steve Skrovan for
the first two seasons and Mark Pitta for the last. FOX, which is known
mostly for lowbrow programs and cheap knockoff of successful ideas from
other networks, ran in to legal trouble from Allen Funt, the producer of Candid
Ultimately Funt lost as the courts rejected his argument that the use
of hidden cameras on "regular" people in humorous situations was
copyrightable. FOX and the shows producers also had to deal with
allegations that some of the stunts were done completely with actors. They
admitted the pilot was, but denied that any subsequent episodes were.
As the show started to lose what little momentum it had in 1991, they
retitled it Totally New Totally Hidden Video, and included a
featured called "Video Vengeance," which showed selected viewers
getting even with those around them to mildly amusing results.
