Quotable!
"All the fans in those section are black, under 10, and don't read the papers."
--Reggie Jackson, Yankees outfielder on why one section of fans didn't boo him

Most Valuable Player Winners

By Patrick Mondout

The Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) has awarded the Most Valuable Player awards 1931. They were a replacement for the League MVP awards, which were abandoned in 1929.

MVP Awards

Even though the Cy Young has been awarded to the top pitcher in each league since 1956, pitchers remain eligible for the award. This has been a source for criticism as many believe their should be a major award for the best pitcher and one for the best non-pitcher. Only four pitcher have won the award since 1971, with the last being Dennis Eckersley in 1992.

Voting is by BBWAA writers, who select their top ten candidates 1-10. Points are awarded by vote rank, with a first place vote worth 10 points, and second place vote worth 9 points, etc.

Share Your Memories!

Our sites have always been by you and about you. If you check our TV Forums or our Technology & Science forums, you'll find literally thousands of messages from fans of 1970s TV shows, survivors of hurricanes or aircraft accidents, etc. from all over the world sharing their memories, asking questions, making comments. Our baseball section is new, but don't let that stop you from sharing your memories of the first game you went to, your favorite player, a now-forgotten stadium, etc. Of course you can also ask questions, post trivia, tell the world what you think of Barry Bonds, or just read what others are saying.
