1976 Major League Draft
Here is the first round of the 1976 Major League Baseball draft. That
the number 1 overall pick was from Arizona State was no surprise. Three #1
overalls in the first 13 years alone (Bannister, Monday and Horner) came
from the school and 26 of the 27 members of the '76 Sun Devils (including
Horner and '78 #3 overall pick Hubie Brooks) were eventually drafted,
including 13 that played in the majors. The
Tigers may have regretted taking Tom Underwood's younger brother Pat with
the second overall pick, but they fared well in the rest of the draft
snapping up part of the core that led them to the 1984 World Series in
Alan Trammell (second round), Dan Petry (fourth round), and Jack Morris
(fifth round). Not content in drafting a borderline Hall of Fame
shortstop, they took Cal Poly's Ozzie Smith in the 7th round (though they
didn't sign him).

|
Our sites have always been by you and about you. If
you check
our TV Forums or our Technology & Science forums, you'll find literally thousands of messages from fans
of 1970s TV shows, survivors of hurricanes or aircraft accidents, etc. from all over the world sharing their memories, asking
questions, making comments. Our baseball section is new, but don't let
that stop you from sharing
your memories of the first game you went to, your favorite player, a
now-forgotten stadium, etc. Of course you can also ask questions, post
trivia, tell the world what you think of Barry Bonds, or just read what
others are saying.
