1974 DraftThe World
Football League held its first ever draft on March 18, 1974. This draft
was for the rights to players already in professional football rather than
for collegians.
The order of round one was determined in a random drawing and each team
was given one pick per round. Each round, teams picked in inverse order.
Thus, the New York Stars had the last pick of the first round, but the
first pick of the second round and so on.
The "Washington/Baltimore/Virginia Ambassadors" had the first
pick and took Charlie Evans. The team became the Florida Blazers before
the season started (the Florida listed below is the team that became the
Jacksonville Sharks).
Below is the first round of the 1974 WFL draft. We plan to offer the entire
40 round draft at some point.
